Učenici 3. razreda gimnazije pod mentorstvom profesorice engleskog jezika Cassy Prskalo tijekom proteklih mjeseci sudjelovali su u projektu „Croatian-American Government Analysis“ zajedno sa svojim vršnjacima iz „Pacific Ridge School“ iz Carlsbada u Kaliforniji kojima je mentor bio profesor političkih znanosti Spencer Burrows. Učenici su tijekom proteklih mjeseci zajedno uspoređivali političke sustave u SAD-u i Hrvatskoj te su kritički promišljali o prednostima i nedostacima sustava na državnoj, regionalnoj i lokalnoj razini. Učenici su također raspravljali o položaju mladih u društvu i mogućnostima za građanski angažman mladih u obje države.

Učenici su najprije snimili kratke videe na platformi Flipgrid u kojima su se predstavili kako bi se bolje upoznali te su iznijeli svoje prethodno znanje o političkim sustavima država partnerskih škola. Nakon toga, profesor Vlado Burčak održao je učenicima predavanje o političkom uređenju Hrvatske na različitim razinama te položaju mladih u Hrvatskoj. Učenici su potom izradili prezentacije o političkom uređenju Hrvatske i mjerama za mlade koje su podijelili sa svojim kolegama iz Amerike te im prezentirali odlike našeg sustava. Učenici iz Carlsbada su sudjelovali u istim aktivnostima pod vodstvom svog profesora. Za kraj, učenici su zajedno sa svojim američkim kolegama napisali istraživačke radove u kojima su istaknuli sličnosti i razlike političkih sustava u objema državama te su iznijeli vlastito mišljenje o položaju mladih.

Srednja škola Ilok ponosna je na ovakve međunarodne suradnje te se zahvaljuje Veleposlanstvu SAD-a u Zagrebu koje je omogućilo ovu suradnju!  

Collaboration with the high school “Pacific Ridge School” from California as part of the “Croatian-American Government Analysis” project

Students from the 3rd grade of grammar school, under the mentorship of English language teacher Cassy Prskalo, have been participating in the “Croatian-American Government Analysis”project over the past few months alongside their peers from the “Pacific Ridge School” in Carlsbad, California, mentored by Government teacher Spencer Burrows. Over the past few months, students have been comparing the political systems in the USA and Croatia and critically reflecting on the advantages and disadvantages of the systems at the national, regional, and local levels. The students also discussed the position of young people in society, and opportunities for civic engagement for youth in both countries.

Initially, the students recorded short videos on the Flipgrid platform, introducing themselves to get better acquainted and shared their prior knowledge of the political systems of the partner schools’ countries. After that, Professor Vlado Burčak gave a lecture to the students on the political organization of Croatia at different levels and the position of youth in Croatia. The students then created presentations on the political organization of Croatia and measures for youth, which they shared with their American counterparts and presented the features of our system to them. Students from Carlsbad, California participated in the same activities under the guidance of their teacher. Finally, students, together with their American counterparts, wrote research papers highlighting the similarities and differences in the political systems of both countries and presented their own opinions on the position of youth.
